Scientists propose to drill 2-km deep hole instead of nuclear power plant



This is four times cheaper while the power capacity is the same as of a nuclear power plant, reckons Russian academician Alexei Yablokov.

It is environmentally unfriendly and inefficient to construct a nuclear power plant. While the share of the nuclear energy will be on steady decline around the world in the next 10 years, Belarus is making a mistake which will be paid for by the present and future generations, academician Alexei Yablokov from the Russian Academy of Sciences said during a public ecological expertise of the nuclear power plant project in Belarus. In the view of the scientists, it would be much more benefitial for Belarusians to use geothermal energy instead of nuclear station project. This is four times cheaper with the same power capacity, reckons Yablokov.
