Belarus special services to use key words for eavesdropping
The chairman of the Constitutional Court reckons it does not confront with the country's Constitution.
The Operative Analytical Center at the Presidential Administration of Belarus looks like yet another secret service after the president's decree has allowed this center to have complete on-line access the customer databases of the Belarusian mobile communication operators. Earlier, the same center was allowed by the president to regulate the internet.

Belarus, Latvia can abolish visas for trans-border residents this year

Belarus and Latvia can soon abolish visas for the residents of trans-border areas. The similar deal was signed by Belarus and Poland on February 12.
The text of the agreement on the simplified border-crossing procedures between Belarus and Latvia is almost read, while Latvia is expecting an answer from Belarus, Latvian foreign ministry spokesman Rets Plesums told Euroradio. "In December 2009 Latvia sent a letter to the Belarusian side with the editorial assessment of the agreement. We have not received an answer from Belarus yet, so we are waiting for an answer", he said.

Lithuanian experts: Belarusian NPP may result in extinction of the whole natio
Vilnius is sure that 85% of the Lithuanian territory will be contaminated as a result of an accident at Atsravets NPP. Ecologists hope for an international reaction and are sending appeals to structures of the European Union, the Aarhus Committee and the Espoo committee
Civil hearings about Astarvets NPP that took place in Vilnius on March 2 ended with a scandal. Participants of the meeting claimed that the event was organized just for show. They say that the report on the NPP’s influence suggested by the delegation from Minsk was criticized due to numerous mismatches and contradictions.

The ban on drinking alcoholic beverages in the street does not surprise anyone in Poland anymore. Amateurs of drinking in the open air or in public transport appear from time to time, however, they get fined for about 30 dollars for it. It is cheaper to travel to Europe by plane rather than by train
Airlines claim that the tendency is observed throughout the whole Europe. Despite this, railways are not going to decrease prices
A trip from Minsk to Amsterdam and back costs 180 euro more if you go by train rather than by plane. The deputy director general of “Belavia” company Ihar Charhinets claims that the tendency of making aviation cheaper than railways is observed throughout the whole Europe:
“There are such tendencies, especially if you look at Europe: the prices of flights to neighbouring countries often differ greatly from express-trains tickets. This tendency is gradually developping here too”.

Scientists propose to drill 2-km deep hole instead of nuclear power plant
This is four times cheaper while the power capacity is the same as of a nuclear power plant, reckons Russian academician Alexei Yablokov.
It is environmentally unfriendly and inefficient to construct a nuclear power plant. While the share of the nuclear energy will be on steady decline around the world in the next 10 years, Belarus is making a mistake which will be paid for by the present and future generations, academician Alexei Yablokov from the Russian Academy of Sciences said during a public ecological expertise of the nuclear power plant project in Belarus. In the view of the scientists, it would be much more benefitial for Belarusians to use geothermal energy instead of nuclear station project. This is four times cheaper with the same power capacity, reckons Yablokov.

Belarus, Poland sign trans-border travel agreement (PHOTO)
Many Belarusians and Poles can now visit each other without visas.
Belarus foreign minister Sergei Martynov and Polish foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski on February 12 in Warsaw signed the agreement on trans-border travel. The agreement allows citizens of trans-border areas to cross the state border without a visa with the purpose of cultural, public or family contacts as well as for economic purposes but not for work. According to Sergei Martynov, this agreement will be ratified approximately by the end of April.
